Sharp turn to the right
Conservatives finally got their Court. That is the central message of the
Supreme Court's October Term 2006 that concluded on June 29. Since Richard
Nixon ran for president in 1968, every Republican president has sought to create
a solid conservative voting majority on the Supreme Court.
Anaheim hosts State Bar's
80th Annual Meeting
No longer known as just the home of Disneyland, the city of Anaheim has grown
to become the 10th largest in California with 342,000 residents. Celebrating
its 150th anniversary this year, it boasts some big-time amenities, including
a Major League Baseball team, a National Hockey League team that happens to
have won the Stanley Cup this year, the Disneyland Resort and the largest Convention
Center on the west coast.
Board adopts civility code
The State Bar Board of Governors adopted a set of voluntary civility guidelines
last month that are designed to restrain unprofessional behavior by attorneys.

San Francisco attorney Jeffrey L. Bleich was elected the 84th president of the
State Bar last month. A partner at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, Bleich will
succeed Sheldon Sloan and will be sworn in at the bar's Annual Meeting in September.
Five win State Bar board seats
Five attorneys have been chosen to serve three-year terms on the State Bar
Board of Governors. The new members of the board, the governing and policymaking body of the more
than 210,000-member organization, will be sworn in at the bar's Annual
Meeting Sept. 29 in Anaheim.
