Award: $2,311,000

A worker was severely burned on his leg and torso as a result of a chemical reaction in a dyeing machine. (Lopez v. Confidential Dyeing Machine Manufacturer, Los Angeles County Superior Court).

Highway fatality
Award: $3,750,000

A tractor/double tanker rig collided with another vehicle and overturned onto the roof of plaintiffs' Mustang, killing the husband/father and injuring a 2-year-old. (Maxwell v. Ganduglia Trucking, Sacramento Superior Court).

An insulin-dependent diabetic prison inmate, who fell in a state of hypoglycemia resulting in a cervical spine fracture and quadriplegia, sued the State of California and prison staff for medical malpractice and failure to summon medical care. A swim coach alleged that she was forced to resign her position because the City of El Cerrito did nothing in response to her complaints about the sexually inappropriate conduct of an assistant coach with female teenage swimmers. (Lucero v. City of El Cerrito, Contra Costa County Superior Court).

An 8-year-old girl was viciously attacked by a pit bull while in a neighbor's yard. (Gomez v. Becerra, Los Angeles County Superior Court).
