Online dues payment
The board of governors enacted amendments to the Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code §6140(b)
on an interim basis to allow testing of online dues payment as a pilot project
for new lawyers who passed the bar exam last month. Based on the response to and
effectiveness of the program, the board will decide whether to adopt the amendments
permanently and to make online dues payment generally available beginning with
payment of the 2004 membership fees. The board will then also determine whether
to charge members paying online an additional fee to defray the costs, as permitted
by Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code §6140(b).
Dues waiver for Iraq service
Rule change to provide waiver of the 2003 membership fees and penalties for any member of the State Bar who also is a member of the reserve components of the armed forces ordered to report for active duty as a result of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
