Bar goes after phony lawyers
Scattered throughout four floors of the State Bar’s Los Angeles building are 900 boxes of legal files and various computers seized from the offices of lawyers who died, abandoned their practices or so seriously breached their duties that the bar asked superior courts to assume jurisdiction.

Although most California lawyers are not aware of State Bar-sponsored insurance and corporate discount programs, a substantial number say they would be interested in offerings such as discounts on travel, car rentals and computer and other electronic purchases.

Although the demographic makeup of the State Bar continues to diversify, its membership is both whiter and older than it was just five years ago, according to a survey conducted in December and January.
