Updated seniors guide to be printed in May

The State Bar will celebrate Law Day in May with the release of its newly revised public education guide, Seniors & the Law: A Guide for Maturing Californians, and a new companion piece, What Should I Know About Elder Abuse?

Since Seniors & the Law was first published in May 2003, the bar has distributed more than 1.2 million copies in six languages and held more than 30 Senior Forums with attorneys and agency representatives offering assistance for seniors with everyday problems. Three forums — in Long Beach, Riverside and the Coachella Valley — be held during the week of May 1.

The new elder abuse pamphlet provides a comprehensive view of one of the most serious and fastest growing problems facing seniors today. The pamphlet offers information on financial and physical abuse, including neglect, theft and assault by outsiders as well as a senior’s own family members.

The revised Seniors & the Law may be pre-ordered by sending an e-mail to seniors@calbar.ca.gov. It is free and may be ordered in bulk at no charge. For especially large orders, a contribution to defray shipping costs is always appreciated.

A free copy of the elder abuse pamphlet is available by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Pamphlets, Office of Media & Information Services, The State Bar of California, 180 Howard St., San Francisco, CA 94105-1639. Information on ordering pamphlets in bulk is available on the State Bar's Web site.
