San Diego will host the State Bar’s 82nd Annual Meeting
The 82nd State Bar Annual Meeting will be held next month in San Diego, offering more than 100 continuing education courses, a reception aboard the USS Midway and a wide variety of networking opportunities for California lawyers.

The Supreme Court moves to the right, perhaps sharply to the right
Term 2008 might be remembered most for the suggestions it gave of changes to come. On the last day of the term, June 29, 2009, the Court surprised observers by not deciding one of the most high profile cases of the year, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. The case involved whether federal election law was constitutional in keeping a political action corporation from showing a movie highly critical of Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Foreclosure attorneys face discipline charges
The State Bar has taken action to lift the law licenses of three California attorneys allegedly engaged in loan modification fraud and is investigating nearly 140 more.

Five elected to board of governors
Five attorneys were elected to three-year terms on the State Bar Board of Governors and will be sworn in next month at the bar’s Annual Meeting in San Diego.

Gwen Moore named public member of State Bar board
Former Assemblywoman Gwen Moore has been appointed to the State Bar Board of Governors by Assembly Speaker Karen Bass. Moore, a Democrat who is founder and president of GeM Communications Group in Los Angeles, will be one of six public members. She replaces Jeannine English.
