Attorneys interested in serving on the California Judicial Council may submit an application to the State Bar by March 1. One three-year position is open, running from Sept. 15, 2000, to Sept. 14, 2003.

The Judicial Council is a state constitutional agency that provides policy direction to the courts, the governor and the legislature concerning court practice, procedure and administration. Meetings are held six to seven times a year, with an annual time commitment of about 300 hours.

The State Bar board of governors, which will make the appointment in June, will consider the applicants’ leadership skills and ability to effectively represent the lawyer perspective on the 21-member council.

Applications are available in this issue of the California Bar Journal (pages 17-18) or from the bar’s Office of the Secretary, 180 Howard St., San Francisco 94105-1639; 415/538-2299 or (fax) 415/538-2561.
