100 law firms make 'disabilities' pledge

More than 100 of the state's major law firms have pledged to support the goal of promoting full and equal participation of legal professionals with disabilities, becoming founding signatories of a State Bar pledge program.

According to Gail Kaplan, chair of the bar's committee on legal professionals with disabilities, law firms committed to the pledge program were honored recently at recognition ceremonies held in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Some of the founding signatories honored for their early commitment were Bronson, Bronson & McKinnon; Atlantic Richfield Legal Department; Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher; Hoge, Fenton, Jones & Appel; Morrison & Foerster; O'Melveny & Myers; Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe; and Santa Clara County Counsel.

The pledge program is expected to expand throughout California to other lawyers, judges and law schools, asking for their support of the spirit of the 1990 Americans with Disabilties Act within the legal community.
