Agreement offers secure Internet communications

A recent agreement between Counsel Connect (www.counsel.com), an online service for attorneys, and Pretty Good Privacy Inc. (www.pgp.com), a leader in digital privacy software and services, now ensures Counsel Connect members a high level of security while communicating over the Internet using PGPmail encryption software.

"By equipping our members with PGPmail encryption software, we have taken an important step in helping them to communicate securely over the Internet and have set an example for the entire legal community," said Jeffrey Weitzman, Counsel Connect chief operating officer.

To send a member a confidential e-mail, a sender encrypts the message with the recipient's public key. Encrypted messages can be decrypted only with a private key, which the recipient alone has. Members also will be able to use PGPmail to encrypt files before attaching them to e-mails or putting them on disks.

Counsel Connect members will soon be able to download PGPmail software. The new arrangement between Counsel Connect and Pretty Good Privacy allows all U.S. and Canadian members to use the encryption service at no additional cost. The product retails for $149.95. For more information, contact Counsel Connect at 1-800/455-4354.
