Chief Justice George forms new task force
on quality of justice

California Supreme Court Chief Justice Ron George has created a special task force on the quality of justice. The panel is to determine the impact on the judicial system of the trend toward private judging and court-affiliated alternative dispute resolution.

The group will study how state courts, litigants and the public are affected, and how the judicial system can attract and retain highly qualified judges to serve full careers on the bench.

The panel was created at the recommendation of the Judicial Council and is charged with proposing rules, standards and legislation.

Among the questions to be addressed are ethical issues such as the standards and educational guidelines which should govern attorneys, non-attorneys and active and retired judges who serve as arbitrators and mediators.
