A new association has launched a membership drive as the first stage of its self-proclaimed "assault on fraudulent healthcare providers," according to Franklin Radoff, founder of the California-based Association of Healthcare Medical Lawyers.

"We are the first association to combine lawyers and medical auditors as members offering their talents to corporations and individuals who pay medical bills," Radoff said. "Our members' primary goal is to ensure the reasonableness and accuracy of healthcare provider bills . . . on a contingency basis." He said he hopes to see the eventual elimination of fraudulent billings.

The group's second goal, Radoff said, is to lobby for the establishment of an effective Patients' Bill of Rights.

The association's website is www.healthcare-medlawyers.org.
