OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE STATE BAR OF CALIFORNIA
|Worst offenders now may face permanent disbarment
For the first time in the states legal history, errant California attorneys face the possibility of permanent disbarment for misconduct, with no chance of ever being allowed to practice law in California again.
The disbarment decision was made by the State Bar Board of Governors last month following several impassioned speeches by members who said the move was necessary to rid the profession of recalcitrant attorneys and prove to the public that it was capable of disciplining its brethren.
Many board members echoed the sentiments of Maurice Evans, chair of the boards discipline committee and chief assistant district attorney of Orange County.
