Fee waiver for lawyers called to Iraq active duty
On a unanimous vote, the State Bar Board of Governors last month waived the
2003 membership fee for California lawyers who were called to active duty to
serve in the military in the Iraqi war.
"The last thing we want to do is penalize in any way our members who have been
called to serve our country," said bar President James E. Herman.
Herman stressed that those lawyers called to active duty during the conflict
must request the dues waiver. He said he hopes lawyers who know of fellow members
who are still on duty will alert their law firms, partners or families so that
the request may be made for them.
