Amendments to the Rules and Regulations of the State Bar will update and clarify the fee waiver process.

Proposed revisions to Rule 9, "Forgiveness of Debt," of the Rules Governing Financial Assistance Plan of the Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP) would modify the types of public or charitable service that the oversight committee of the LAP would consider in waiving and forgiving any amount due and payable to the plan.

Proposed revisions to Rule 6 of the Financial Assistance Plan of the Lawyer Assistance Program would add loans for treatment — related expenses and place a $5,000 lifetime cap on such assistance.

MPRE passing score

The Committee of Bar Examiners proposes increasing the passing score required for the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination from a scaled score of 79 to a scaled score of 100, out of a maximum scaled score of 150.

Bar exam accommodations

Applicants for admission who can demonstrate their religious beliefs require the observance of a religious holiday on a date that conflicts with the bar exam may receive accommodation from the Committee of Bar Examiners.

Cost collection

Proposed amendments to rule 951 of the California Rules of Court and rules 280, 282, 284, 285 and 662 of the Rules of Procedure of the State Bar would implement the statutory authorization for collecting disciplinary costs and Client Security Fund payments as money judgments.
