Capozzi appointed to state Judicial Council

The State Bar appointed former President Tony Capozzi to the Judicial Council last month to replace James Herman, another former bar president who was named to the bench in Santa Barbara County. Chief Justice Ronald George also announced the appointment of four judges, a court commissioner and two court administrators to the 26-member council, which serves as the constitutional policymaking body of the state courts.

In addition to Capozzi, a sole practitioner in Fresno, the bar appointed Thomas V. Girardi, a Los Angeles trial attorney with the firm of Girardi & Keese, and Barbara J. Parker, the chief assistant city attorney for Oakland, to the council. Parker manages a division of 25 attorneys in five units, overseeing all advice to the mayor, city council and other municipal bodies. Girardi has tried more than 100 jury cases to conclusion and has received numerous awards.

Another former member of the State Bar Board of Governors, Ron Albers, now a San Francisco court commissioner, was appointed to the council by George. Other appointees are: Justice Eileen C. Moore, Fourth Appellate District; Judge Charles W. McCoy Jr., Los Angeles Superior Court; Judge Barbara J. Miller, Ala-meda Superior Court; Judge Dennis E. Murray, Tehama Superior Court; Deena C. Fawcett, clerk/administrator, Third Appellate District and Sharol H. Strickland, Butte County Superior Court executive officer.
