Former State Bar President Andrew J. Guilford was nominated last month for
a federal judgeship on the Central District bench in Los Angeles. Guilford,
55, is a longtime partner in Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton in Costa
Mesa. “I am honored to have been nominated by the president and I look
forward to working with the Senate on my confirmation hearing, and if confirmed
I look forward to serving as a judge,” he said.
Guilford served as bar president in 2000 after representing Orange County
for three years on the bar board of governors. He also served as president
of the Orange County Bar Association and most recently has been president of
the Public Law Center, the county’s public interest law firm.
“I think it’s a terrific appointment,” said another former
bar president, John Van de Kamp. “Andy served the bar well and is a fine
lawyer and balanced individual.”
Guilford graduated from UCLA and UCLA law school and has spent his entire
career with Sheppard Mullin, where he handles a wide variety of business matters,
particularly relating to professional liability, intellectual property, finance
and unfair competition.
