Proposed amendments to the Rules of the State Bar would revise the IOLTA rules to simplify syntax, eliminate redundancies and update terminology. Existing IOLTA rules would be repealed.

Sustainable practice

Would create a Lawyers Eco-Pledge and Law Office Sustainability Policies. Members, firms or law departments who have adopted and implemented a State Bar Law Office Sustainability Policy would be able to claim bar recognition through the licensing of a “tag line” and logo to be used in advertising and promotional materials, and perhaps be eligible for other forms of bar recognition.

New rule 2.40 of the Rules of the State Bar of California, which would establish both the eligibility requirements for resigning without charges pending and a process for handling those resignations.

Online reporting

Proposed Rule of Court 9.7 would require members to use their online My State Bar Profile to report their current address, telephone number, and an e-mail address. Using My State Bar Profile to report additional information would be optional. Members who do not have Internet access or an e-mail address may request an annual exemption from the reporting requirement.

Conviction proceedings

Proposed modifications to the Rules of Procedure would codify existing procedures in conviction cases and make default procedures in those cases more consistent with default procedures in all other cases.
