Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Aviva Bobb isn’t one to confuse wishes
with reality. In her early days as a legal aid lawyer, Bobb, like many others,
assumed attorneys would always be available for civil clients — whether
those clients could afford representation or not.

kids to the law
The mock trial in Judge Joseph Di Loreto’s Long Beach courtroom was to
start in 20 minutes and high school junior Jaleesa Mendez, a “plaintiff’s
attorney,” looked bored. Her mother had pushed her and her two teenaged
sisters to join Littles in Law, a nascent lawyer mentoring program, and Jaleesa
was decidedly unenthusiastic about the task ahead of her.
Gayle Murphy named head of bar admissions
Veteran State Bar administrator Gayle Murphy was appointed senior executive for admissions, replacing Jerome Braun, who retired.
