 An
    alternative to juvenile
  detention — that works
With varying degrees of attentiveness, three teenagers lounge on overstuffed
couches as mental health counselor Lui Lutz leads a “Thinking for Change” discussion
focused on finding options to an unpleasant job.
“Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings,” Lutz says in a
distinctive German accent. “First, what are your feelings (when you have
a job assignment you don’t like)?” “I don’t want to
be here no more,” says one youngster in a black ECKO T-shirt. “It
  sucks,” says a young woman.
State
    Bar Foundation in ‘new era’
In the far reaches of remote northern California, where many court users are
poor and have no transportation, the number of grandparents forced to become
guardians for their grandchildren is rising. Thanks to a grant from the Foundation
of the State Bar of California, three county courts in the area will be able
to expand a program expected to help 30 to 35 more grandparents each month
than otherwise would have been possible.
Governor
    names new bar board member
Los Angeles City Controller Laura Chick was appointed a public member of the
State Bar Board of Governors by Gov. Schwarzenegger. Chick, 62, joins two other
non-attorney members of the board; there are three additional vacancies awaiting
  gubernatorial appointment.

Wearhouse, will hold its sixth annual statewide clothing drive next month.
Donated business attire for both men and women will be given to Working Wardrobes
