Ten years after taking the oath as California's chief justice, Ronald M. George
can take credit for raising the profile of the judicial branch, stabilizing
court funding and undertaking a wide range of reforms that have either revitalized
the state's court system or taken aim at some of its problems.

Mike Aguirre and Bonnie Dumanis have had their run-ins. When Dumanis, San Diego's
district attorney, held a news conference to suggest that her office take over
the criminal prosecution division of Aguirre's city attorney office last year,
he declared that he'd been ambushed.

Spring
Summit set for June 2-3 in San Jose
The State Bar 2006 Spring Summit, focused on achieving diversity in the legal
profession, will be held June 2 and 3 at the San Jose Marriott. This year's
conference will feature the results of the bar's access and fairness online
survey, introduction of a "pipeline initiative" to attract a more diverse law
student population, and the launch of a California Judicial Summit.
