Transfer of county courthouses to state is behind schedule
When legislation first paved the way for the state to take responsibility
for California’s 451 county courthouses, many in disrepair, officials
were given three years to do the job. But with the deadline now two months
away, only a few dozen courthouses — 49 by mid-April — have actually
shifted to state control.
Bar releases updated Kids & the Law
The State Bar continues its tradition of helping legal consumers understand
their rights and responsibilities with the release of a new Kids & the
Law: An A-to-Z Guide for Parents. Since 2001, the bar has distributed more
than 6 million of its public education guides.
Guidelines for lawyer civility move forward
A State Bar task force has
proposed guidelines to enhance civility and professionalism among California’s
lawyers that touch on areas such as discovery, privacy, punctuality and service
of papers.
