Copeland reappointed JNE Commission chair

At its first meeting of the 1996-97 bar year, the Board of Governors appointed Judith Copeland, a San Diego attorney, chair of the Judicial Nominees Evaluation Commission (JNE). Copeland, who served as JNE chair in 1995, will take over the embattled commission from Rita Gunasekaran of Los Angeles.

The commission, under fire the past year for its "not qualified" rating of now Justice Janice Rogers Brown, currently is being scrutinized by a special panel.

Also at its Nov. 23 meeting, the board delayed a discussion of mandatory malpractice insurance until March.
