L.A. probate court records now available online

The Los Angeles County Superior Court has automated its probate records allowing for the first time computer online access to court documents. Through an agreement with Ameritech, online access to all records and cases in the probate section of the court is now provided via Ameritech's CivicLink service. Until now, access to this information was only available by visiting the L.A. County courthouse.

Streamline routine administrative tasks

Using FileNet's new Visual Workflo software, Trident Data Systems has created two programs designed to streamline and customize routine legal administrative tasks.

"Criminal Reports" manages detailed information including the crime, its location, time and date, victim and defendant names and attending officers.

"Tax Levy" processes tax levies in organizations where financial assets are to be debited or frozen. As a levy is processed, the program captures pertinent information from the levy, verifies the account-holder name, debits or freezes the account, and produces associated documents and reports.

Omega releases financial management software

Omega Legal Systems Inc. has released its Version 5.1 for Windows financial management software. This new release, designed for the legal industry, includes several added features, most notably a Windows Graphical User Interface.

The Windows interface, which is initially being released for time entry, client/matter inquiries and attorney productivity review, can run simultaneously with Omega's character-based (DOS) system. This allows firms to select an appropriate interface for each user. The company designed the software to take advantage of Microsoft's Windows 95 and Windows NT 32-bit capabilities.

Dateflight focuses on security

Dataflight Software has released version 6.0 of its full text database management software, Concordance Information Retrieval System. This new version focuses on database security and introduces an easier way to search full text called Query-by-Example.

Password protection for both databases and menu features gives the user supervisory control over both functions and information and the ability to assign full-read and write access to secured data.

The Query-by-Example feature make searching large collections of information easier by eliminating the need to remember field names or complex query languages. By simply "filling in the blanks," the user can quickly access and retrieve information.

With 12,000 original pages and more than 9,000 links, this new site allows law publishers, schools, bar associations and authors to self-list their product or service directly on the site or link-up to an exiting listing. Publishers can modify and cancel (maintain) their information by using assigned access codes.
