Five seats open on bar board

Nominating petitions are available for California attorneys interested in running for any of the five seats open on the 1997-98 State Bar Board of Governors.

Seats are open in District 1 (Butte, Colusa, Del Norte, Glenn, Humboldt, Lake, Lassen, Mendocino, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity and Yuba counties); District 3 (Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties); District 5 (Fresno, Inyo, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Mono, Monterey, San Benito, San Joaquin, Santa Cruz, Stanislaus and Tulare counties); District 7 (Los Angeles); and District 9 (Imperial and San Diego).

Any active member of the State Bar who maintains his or her principal office for the practice of law within the district with an open seat is eligible to run. There are 23 seats on the board, five of which are designated for appointed public members.

Lawyer members are elected for three-year terms and will assume their offices at the conclusion of the 1997 Annual Meeting in San Diego, Sept. 11-14. Petitions may be filed beginning May 30. The last day for filing is June 13. Ballots will be mailed to active bar members on July 11 with voting ending on August 15.
