Ethics opinions
Alameda County Bar Association Ethics and Civility Committee
Ethics Opinion 2000-1 (Informal Opinion No. 1)
In its first published ethics opinion, the Alameda County Bar Association ethics and
civility committee concluded that, in appropriate circumstances, it is ethically
permissible for bankruptcy court judges and their law clerks to receive complimentary
admission to Alameda County Bar Association bankruptcy bar luncheon meetings that offer
MCLE credit. The committee opined that the provision of complementary meals and MCLE
credit does not violate ethical rules and judicial canons prohibiting improper gifts.
