The Sixth Annual Statewide Ethics Symposium,
sponsored by the State Bar's Committee on Professional
Responsibility and Conduct, will be held in San Francisco June 29.
California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno
will deliver the keynote address at the event, which focuses this year
on "The Evolving Legal Profession: The Role of Lawyers in the 21st
Century."
Among the topics to be addressed at the day-long
forum are: "Unbundling of Legal Services"; "Ethical Implications
of Lawyers Testifying Against Their Criminal Defendant Clients"; and
"Possible Solutions to Conflicts when Lawyers Change Firms."
The Commission for the Revision of the Rules of
Professional Conduct will provide a status report on its work during
the afternoon portion of the program. At an open forum "town hall"
meeting, attendees will have an opportunity to address the commission
with concerns about the rules and offer suggestions for amendments to
the rule.
Participants may earn MCLE credit in ethics.
The pre-registration deadline for the symposium
is June 14. Additional information is available by calling
