Constitutional law expert from Yale to deliver address

Yale law professor Stephen Carter will offer his thoughts on the role of integrity in American life during a Sunday, Sept. 14, luncheon at the State Bar's Annual Meeting in San Diego.

Carter is currently at work on "Civility," the sequel to his new book, "Integrity." He is also the author of the 1993 book "The Culture of Disbelief," as well as "Reflections of an Affirmative Action Baby" and "The Confirmation Mess: Cleaning Up the Federal Appointments Process."

"Integrity" examines the national mood and concludes that unless integrity is at the center of both our private and public lives, American democracy and ideals will not endure.

He also discusses the difficulties in trying to legislate integrity and the possibilities for teaching it.

An expert in constitutional law, intellectual property and contracts, Carter was a law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. He was appointed to the National Commission on Judicial Discipline and Removal by President Bush.
