Moffat acting general counsel

Marie M. Moffat has been named acting general counsel of the State Bar while a search is conducted to replace Diane Yu, who has moved on to the corporate world.

Moffat, 48, is currently the deputy general counsel and managing attorney for the Office of General Counsel, a position she has held for the past eight years.

An attorney for 23 years, Moffat has advised the board and bar staff about legal matters, including litigation, transactional and regulatory issues.

In other bar staff news, Paul Virgo, assistant chief trial counsel, was recently elected to a two-year term as director-at-large for the National Organization of Bar Counsel (NOBC).

Representatives of every bar association in the U.S., as well as Canada, England and Australia, meet twice a year.

For the past two years, Virgo has coordinated the organization’s survey program.
