Accounting for Lawyers available on CD-ROM

For the first time, lawyers can master the critical components of accounting needed to serve their clients using an interactive multimedia CD-ROM. Accounting for Lawyers, Practising Law Institute's new multimedia CD-ROM, provides attorneys with the information and analytical tools they need to understand financial statements and get a true picture of any company's financial condition and potential.

Court documents sent via Internet

West Group and Adobe Systems are teaming up to enhance the WestFile Service, a web-based filing system that enables legal professionals to send court documents via the Internet. Adobe Systems is the newest participant to join an alliance of business, including West Group, IBM, VeriSign and SCT Government Systems, to offer the WestFile Service (www.westfile.com).

The WestFile Service replaces paper-based filing systems with electronic files and online delivery. Electronic filing is faster and more efficient and can significantly reduce the expense of filing court documents.

Judges like lawyers who no longer show up

More than 100 courts in California are giving lawyers the opportunity to be more efficient, more successful and more appreciated by overworked judges who just don't want to see them. These benefits are possible thanks to a California ruling and a remarkable piece of technology - the telephone.

The recent passage of Rule 298 allows lawyers to make routine court appearances by telephone to many courts in California. To act on this mandate, numerous state court systems have awarded exclusive contracts to ConferenceCallService for its Appearance by Phone service. The convenience of handling routine court matters from their desks without having to battle traffic to the courthouse makes Appearance by Phone a natural for busy California lawyers.

The lawyer is charged a flat fee of $19.95 for using the teleconference service - a cost well below the lawyer's hourly fee plus travel expenses.
