The State Bar will hold its Annual Meeting Sept. 14-17 in San Diego, offering low-cost continuing education courses, luncheons with prestigious speakers and networking opportunities for attorneys from throughout California.

The Annual President’s Pro Bono Service Awards will be presented  Sept. 14 at the president’s reception at the San Diego Aerospace Museum. Attendees may tour the museum’s exceptional exhibits as part of the evening.

California Women Lawyers will honor two outstanding women attorneys and the Conference of Delegates will debate current legal issues throughout the weekend.

Among the speakers are Ronald M. Shapiro, a respect agent-attorney for baseball players, who also is an author, television host and expert negotatiator. Also speaking are Pamela Samuelson, a professor at the University of California in both the law school and the school of information management, and Sarah Weddington, a Texas attorney who served as President Carter’s special assistant on women’s issues.

Attendees at the Annual Meeting can pick up 18 hours of MCLE credit by participating in some of the seminars offered throughout the weekend. Topics include “Advising Your Clients on Internet Issues: What You Don’t Know CAN Hurt You,” “The Practical Rainmaker,” “Hanging Out Your Shingle at the Start of a New Century,” and “Mental & Physical Health: Knowing When to Hold ‘Em and When to Fold ‘Em.”

The Annual Meeting Preview, including a schedule of events, a list of all MCLE seminars, pre-registration and ticket fee forms and hotel  reservation information will be available this month at www.calbar.org/annualmeeting/index.htm. Because a large number of meetings are scheduled that weekend, the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau anticipates most hotels will be fully booked. Those wishing to attend the Annual Meeting are urged to make hotel reservations well in advance.
